Description
Kiemura is a Finnish game company of a husband-wife team Jyri and Piia Kilpeläinen.
History
History in a nutshellIt's the usual story: Software engineer boy meets construction engineer girl, they fall in love, get married, have kids, start making indie games on their free time and end up establishing a game company together.
First stepsAfter getting laid off from a day job in autumn 2012, Jyri started working on his first own mobile game titled Mystic Marbles. Piia, who was on parental leave at the time, wanted to help his husband and created the game's character art. After 14 months of development, Mystic Marbles was launched in January 2014 and it flopped big time. But the seeds for the couple's collaboration had been planted.
TiltagonAfter Mystic Marbles' failure, Jyri and Piia made a small mobile title Super Line Rush and started prototyping a tilt based mobile game. The prototype, titled Tiltagon, was shown publicly for the first time at PocketGamer's Big Indie Pitch in November 2014. This resulted in articles on gaming sites TouchArcade and AppSpy which eventually led to a publishing deal with Canadian game publisher NoodleCake Games. Tiltagon was released in April 2015, ended up receiving over 1 million downloads in a few months and helped the couple to reach their long-time dream: their own game company. Fast forward 9 months and life at Kiemura is busy as ever: Tiltagon has received a big 2.0 update, it has been released on Apple TV and in March 2016 the game is arriving to Steam.
The family that makes games togetherIndie game developers. Startup founders. Parents. Married couple. Jyri and Piia wear many hats and show that it really is possible to combine all those things and make it work.
